AFRICANISM 101

Africanism 101 is a documentary series on major East African socio-political issues.

The series was produced by Odios Creations between 2012 and 2013, with Buni Media as Executive Producer. Four episodes were released and broadcast to a national audience on NTV-Kenya in the run-up to the 2013 general elections:

EPISODE 1: The Golden fish syndrome. This episode deals with Kenyans tendency to forget about issues such as major corruption scandals easily. What are the various factors that contribute to their ‘forgetfulness’ and what has this cost us as a country?

EPISODE 2: Tribalism, Us vs Them. This episode looks at the issue of tribalism and the effects it has had on the Kenyan society today as well as some of her neighboring countries like Rwanda. Where did this originate and how is it being dealt with? We also talk to people who have been victims of discrimination as a result of their tribes.

EPISODE 3: Aid, Ask and ye shall receive …. with strings attached. This episode looks at the aid industry. What effects has it had on the country both positively and negatively? Why does aid keep flowing in even after misappropriation of funds by our governments? Can the country survive without it? If so, what needs to be done to make this a reality?

EPISODE 4: Resource management, whose turn is it to eat? This episode looks at how resources are distributed in the country. How effective is our government at managing these resources? Where are the resources allocated? Are these allocations realistic? What is the better alternative?
